Ruby Parts – The Uses Beyond Jewellery

Dec 2nd 2014 at 11:35 PM

The moment one hears the term ruby, all that comes to mind is jewellery. But, there is more to ruby than just the glitz and shine. A lot of ruby parts are created out of artificial or synthetic ruby and used in many types of equipment. Similar to the use of sapphire as parts of equipments, ruby parts are also very often used.

One such part is the ruby orifice and ruby nozzle. These are used to make water into fine droplets and are very often used in fog cooling methods. They are more superior to brass or stainless steel nozzles since they have a greater life under high pressure and can retain good spray patterns for long periods of time. Ruby orifice and ruby nozzles can maintain the diameters of the droplets for long periods of time.

The fine writing prints on paper using a ball point pen is thanks to the ruby balls that form the tip of ball point pens. They provide a smoother and much finer writing experience. These ruby parts are very hard, chemically inert, have high conductivity for heat and have extreme wear resistance; besides they provide smooth finish too.

Ruby jewel bearings are the most essential part of mechanical watches made in Switzerland. These ruby jewel bearings are very accurate, small in size and weight too. They provide friction free movements and is possibly the reason why the Swiss mechanical watches last for much longer periods of time. Still, it is critical to understand that these ruby jewelshare hard to come by.

In cathodes, the heating element and the cathode sleeve is protected by an insulating sheet and this is usually made of ruby and these ruby insulators find place in such cathode sleeves, along with sapphire and quartz. Use of this ruby insulator ensures a very high heating between the heating element and the cathode sleeve.

While choosing ruby parts or ruby jewels, it is important to consider the precision orifice that are parts of the ruby nozzles. No deviation from requirements can be allowed and companies that manufacture these ruby parts also make glass ball lens. Ruby, ceramic, optical and sapphire are used to make glass ball lens and are used in fibre optic connectors, in the use of bar code scanners and bearing applications too.

All these ruby parts have been in use in the medical, technological and other industries for a long period of time. Its continued usage in these fields will open up more options for its use and implementation.
