My IM faceplate wishlist (like & add your own ideas!)

Jul 7th 2010 at 10:30 AM

I realize that IM faceplate is still new, but I see more potential for social interaction. If you like my ideas, please like this article & comment with your own ideas!

  • Allow multiple shouts on your faceplate (rather than having to clear & then re-shout)
  • Allow replies to other people's shouts (like Twitter or Facebook)
  • Easier Navigation (link to the add article page on the articles page, etc)
  • Get Groups & Discussions going!
  • Add an API so people can do fun stuff to interact with faceplates
  • Allow links to usernames to display the person's name rather than their username
Please to comment

Wow! Awesome suggestions by all. It seems most of your suggestions have been in the works here. One feature that I am having some problems with is the face to face communications. Some of the comments get lost in cyber space.

These ideas are excellent. I look forward to seeing them implemented soon.

Hi Tim, I can see that you are very knowledgeable of the social sites/ computers in general. I am new to this social media scene. However, I just need to know so much. I am not a novice. Yet, I am need to know what did you do to get the amount of followers and popularity.

Thumbs Up... I like all the ideas. :)

I like your wish list and have to agree on every point!
Mar 3rd 2011 at 12:37 AM by doddee
Hi Tim, Here's what I am thinking. We need everyday people here too, not just internet marketers. There's a whole new group of people out there that don't have a clue that they can actually make money on the internet. They might join just to share recipes or their Avon business, or whatever...but once they are here and start looking around they get curious and start to venture into different things. So my suggestion is make the site appeal to everyone.

As a former computer tech and having just gone through a year long lauch of a totally new online system, these things take time. The number one factor is expense, adding new servers and hiring more staff. Plus new systems roll out in phases and never really stop evolving. So I will continue to enjoy the journey and work with what I got. I think IM is more personable and more cozy than FB though I still like FB for what it is.

Your Proposals are highly appreciated We will expect some on their next upgrade. Feeling happy to comment on your proposal.
Oct 9th 2010 at 1:52 AM by flconversation
I mostly agree with your proposals, "Allowing links to the person's name" I don't appreciate, because for some given reason people want only use a 'user' or 'pen name'. Therefore: no link to person's name.

Some good ideas Tim....As they say "Its all good" The shouts are ok on their own from my view though. Remember the spotlights are there as well...Have a great week my friend!

A better way to access private conversations would be cool. Maybe a tab. The ability to put 125x125 banners down the right hand side of faceplate (like sokule)

Scanned the list and didn't see this...I'd like 'edit this' links on everything on my faceplate when I'm logged in. Great site though and blissfully easy to use :-) Oh and could we distinguish just followers from referral followers on activity pages
Aug 26th 2010 at 12:48 PM by HealthyGuy
I really like most of the ideas that are presented here. The one I'm not really sure about is the multiple shouts. I think if it were treated with respect it would be OK, but I like the uncluttered feel of FB better than almost every other site I have been on. It is also obvious that the management is trying to work with us in creating and updating this site at a pretty good pace, and for that I commend them. Thank you for the opportunity to share, It is greatly appreciated. To Your Great Success and Health Dr. Lee

I am still figuring out all the links IMFaceplate has at this point - I love this site already! will see if any other wishlist ideas comeup. Way to go Tim for getting 100! Thanx for your article :o)
Aug 21st 2010 at 8:02 PM by LindaFausset
I really think the ability to add links would be a great assest. I like all the idea's thanks Tim.
Aug 21st 2010 at 5:22 PM by smhwrite
Two things I would like added tweaked. Ok I just joined faceplate. I would like to be able to add to twitter usernames because when I set up my blogs I was told to have different twitter accounts for them as the different blogs appeal to different groups. So could you add another twitter field. On facebook if I put that is that going to post every facebook post I make. Ie if we play games I really don't need it posting those but if it put groups I am following or posts on certain groups that may be helpful.
Aug 20th 2010 at 6:18 PM by stevemccardell
Some good ideas! I will say that I'm very impressed with the clean, fast interface here, and if they can keep the quality, I think adding some games and possibly video messaging (maybe for Pro members if there is much cost) would be great. I have to dig in more to see what they have before I can wish for more. :)
Aug 20th 2010 at 3:18 PM by billbowman
I like the ideas and how about an easy way to follow others. Similar to Twitter where they are listed in the descending order so I know who the latest ones are.
Aug 19th 2010 at 12:04 PM by paulpenafiel
I like that idea of being able lto reply to other people's shouts. The other thing I like about IMFaceplate is that it has that clean professional look. Regards.
Aug 16th 2010 at 7:55 PM by wp217
I agree - This site is wonderful and has great potential to be big. I for one intend to take full advantage of its abilities. So far Ive published quite a few articles and had good comments. I will keep going and look forward to all this site has to offer now and in the future :)

Aug 7th 2010 at 6:12 AM by caroljbs
Hum! I didn't realize you have to clear the shouts on your faceplate. Do you lose points if you don't? Thanks Tim great tips here. I will follow you.
Aug 2nd 2010 at 11:01 PM by fredds
Quite a number of members are for the multiple shouts. I, however, am not for it. As far as the shouts go, lets keep it as it is. If multiple shouts were allowed, this lovely place of ours called IMfacePlate would become a "very noisy place"
Aug 2nd 2010 at 10:18 PM by maureenv1
I like your suggestions, especially regarding an API. I am looking forward to what lies ahead with IM Faceplate, since the site is still in it's infancy.

I like these two Tim "# Allow multiple shouts on your faceplate (rather than having to clear & then re-shout) # Allow replies to other people's shouts (like Twitter or Facebook)"
Jul 31st 2010 at 8:31 PM by yhbecpublisher

Jul 30th 2010 at 11:45 PM by coolindiansurfer
Top 2 are so much required Allow multiple shouts on your faceplate (rather than having to clear & then re-shout) Allow replies to other people's shouts (like Twitter or Facebook)
Jul 28th 2010 at 11:41 PM by CindyBattye
I agree, think that we should be able to reply to comments, kinda silly that u can't. Oh, and who says that JonJon isn't sexy? hehe
Jul 28th 2010 at 11:52 AM by weedermann
My IM faceplate wishlist: To get all of you "guru hotshots" manacled to your thrones in one place and have a Vulcan do a killer mind-meld, Then transfer the best of it to me so I can finally generates some stimulus to my bank account. *Traffic Exchange LIVE!, Jon Olson Sucks!---and it's true, he's not sexy either!* ;o)
Jul 27th 2010 at 7:17 AM by fredds
Thanks for the improvements - especially the reduction of the size of the articles titles . The articles titles now look more presentable. We are looking forward to the other improvements that you have promised to come.
Jul 26th 2010 at 4:11 PM by tyler
We recently updated the functionality for your followers. You can now view all your followers organized by the most recent at the top of the list and the time that they have been following you. Email notifications are now also being sent when you have a new follower so that you can easily stay on top of your fans :)

We are also in the process of adding some better management features and functionality, so watch for that ... plus some other really cool stuff!
Jul 24th 2010 at 8:26 AM by phylma
All great ideas and I also like the suggestion below about notification of new follows. Faceplate is an excellent site and maybe we can help make it even better!
Jul 23rd 2010 at 10:16 PM by GTBulmer
Hi, Tim: I am very pleased with IMfp so far, although your suggestions would definitely enhance the experience. What I would like to see is some (quick) way that alerts us to a new follower so we can acknowledge them right away. Right now, they get lost in the rotating "Followers" list and it is too easy to miss them! :-)
Jul 23rd 2010 at 7:38 PM by haroon132
I am absolutely in Love with IM Faceplate and the new upgrades are really awesome as well you can now send the PM to any person as well.

Jul 19th 2010 at 11:55 PM by fredds
A suggestion: Could you guys at IMfacePlate consider making the font size of the titles of the article a bit smaller - like the ones for the custom lists. The current size is too large, or what do you think guys?
Jul 19th 2010 at 1:46 AM by baljib
I agree with your comment, that's a very good idea ,we are all here for help let's keep the good thing to move imfaceplate forward.
Jul 18th 2010 at 5:37 AM by fredds
I agree with a comment by lynnm (Jul 11th 2010 at 9:10 AM): "Definitely needed is an easier way to see who your newly acquired followers are since you last logged in. I don't have many yet and aren't following many yet, but I am already getting a little lost in that regard." This would help us to manage our "follows" and "followers" much better and easier.
Jul 13th 2010 at 11:06 AM by tyler
Yes, we have developed a lot of websites but IM faceplate is different from anything we have done in the past. It is also very hard for a small development team to come up with every single feature that the members would want. It is much better to give the members a foundation and then implement the features that they request the most because it means that we are tailoring the website directly to our users. You get a much stronger end product this way and everyone gets to be involved in the evolving animal that such a project inevitably becomes :)
Jul 13th 2010 at 9:17 AM by Siamak
Well, there are always wishlists nearly on every website you join today. I don't know why they don't consider this before launch-time... Well, at least Logiscape guys, should have figured out, cuz they have like 6 or 7 websites
Jul 12th 2010 at 10:20 AM by tyler
Some more functionality is on its way for the groups and discussions. We are currently working on about 5 or 6 improvements and additions to that section alone. Watch for updates this week!
Jul 11th 2010 at 10:33 PM by santa
Ability to set a background image.
Jul 11th 2010 at 4:00 PM by DavidHodges
I like Tim's wishlist and all the others. Let's get this show on the road!
Jul 11th 2010 at 9:10 AM by lynnm
Definitely needed is an easier way to see who your newly acquired followers are since you last logged in. I don't have many yet and aren't following many yet, but I am already getting a little lost in that regard. I love the Groups/Discussions now that they're going - but finding them a little hard & clunky to follow now that they're going. They need some kind of "last viewed" similar to what's in the vBulletin & phpBB forums, methinks.
Jul 11th 2010 at 8:35 AM by soonerdad3
Tim I like the suggestions on your list and I hope they implement them soon.
Jul 11th 2010 at 8:28 AM by tyler
Free members can start groups (always have) ... and we are definitely going to be making it easier to follow people from all over the site.
Jul 10th 2010 at 9:43 PM by redhwanict
Hi Tim I like your wishlist. I want the same and one additional wishlist from is to make managing follower easier rather than to click one someone else faceplate and follow him/her from him/her faceplate page.
Jul 10th 2010 at 9:10 PM by catherinedwhite
Let Free members start a group.

Hi Tim, I would guess that a lot of what you are suggesting is already on the way. IM Faceplate seems pretty savvy to me and I like the direction they going. Good to read your suggestions. Many blessings. Linda
Jul 9th 2010 at 6:09 AM by bspates
this is a great article have a great day
Jul 8th 2010 at 9:51 PM by roosevans
I would like to see more exposure for more articles because now, despite probably thousands of articles, we are exposed only to the most "popular" articles, which keep getting more popular because they are the only ones given exposure! Having said all that I am enjoying IMfaceplate!
Jul 7th 2010 at 6:52 PM by hasgards
Great ideas Tim. I like in particular your first idea .Allow multiple shouts on your faceplate (rather than having to clear & then re-shout)but not to much shout. It would take to much place
Jul 7th 2010 at 3:16 PM by tyler
Yes, the ability to search for others based on interests, etc. is on its way. Keep an eye on the NEWS because we are updating the site with stuff daily. Lots of stuff in the next 24-48 hours.
Jul 7th 2010 at 3:10 PM by Jeffg
Great ideas Tim. I also like the idea of being able to search for other faceplates using keywords to find other people with similar interests or just to find friends.
Jul 7th 2010 at 2:58 PM by tyler
We have now added the ability to include your website under your contact info ... this can be added by editing your faceplate and going to the "social links" tab. Thanks vitalwebs for the suggestion! And, has anyone noticed anything different about their faceplates? :)
Jul 7th 2010 at 2:56 PM by gwcalvert
It would be cool if you could search for other faceplates using keywords to find other people with similar interests. I would also like to be able to look at the older updates on my main page. Usually there have been so many new things going down , that I miss what people have added, or who has followed me recently...
Jul 7th 2010 at 2:49 PM by dodomat
nice words=much money .thanks
Jul 7th 2010 at 1:54 PM by vitalwebs
How about 1st 140 characters of Shouts being able to update your Twitter account, if you want. And a "Website" link under "other ways to connect" heading below the Profile picture.
Jul 7th 2010 at 11:31 AM by ameastre
Another should-have is article searching with a search box right above the popular articles list. I also support having an API or at least widgets to take out to the web. I'd like something similar to the Sweeva user widget to show off my IMFP info on my affiliate marketing website.
Jul 7th 2010 at 11:29 AM by sb4269
Well stated Tim and great ideas. I agree with kfgeorge about the IM Faceplate widget. That would make a great addition for promoting. IM Faceplate will indeed become a great addition to social networking. With all the posts on how to do different things on the Internet, this will most assuredly become one of the Trusted Sites for new Internet Marketers to learn how to make a living on line. Great idea, ^5! Sam

Allow multiple shouts on your faceplate (rather than having to clear & then re-shout) Thumbs up
Jul 7th 2010 at 11:00 AM by philjansen
I do agree with Tim, Louise and Kathy, I would like to add that we need more promotional materials like ,pre-written emails, signature ads, solo ads etc. Please do not forget to activate the contact boxes.!! Thank you for the good work! God Bless!
Jul 7th 2010 at 10:58 AM by Barry30
Excellent ideas there Tim. Would be great if we could get some if not all of those ideas added.
Jul 7th 2010 at 10:47 AM by lulubel
I agree with most of what you're suggesting, Tim. This site needs to develop more and include more things to keep people on it for longer. I'm not so sure about the shouts, though. I kind of like only being able to shout one thing at a time (and your older shouts stay visible on your followers' main account pages until they get pushed off the bottom, so people are still seeing them). I very much see this site as one to be used in conjunction with Twitter and Facebook and complimenting, rather than competing with them.
Jul 7th 2010 at 10:37 AM by kfgeorge
This site is great. My idea is to make a IM Faceplate widget that can be placed on your blog or website, with comments from your faceplate.
