Most Effective Ways to Increase Your Website’s Search Engine Ranking

Oct 4th 2013 at 6:16 AM

Getting high frequency traffic is central to achieving high rankings in searches. However, if your best-laid plans in the direction aren’t working as well as you’d have hoped, you might benefit from using the following tips to improve and optimize your website’s search engine ranking.

  • Provide enough links

Providing links for your content is key to ensuring that people a) know about the existence of that content, b) know how to get to that content. Being lazy in this department is not an option and not anybody who thinks of link building as an avoidable step can expect to figure high on search engine rankings. While it does take effort to do so, it isn’t going to take all your time. In fact, a basic link building strategy would require you to simply register your website on social networking pages and post updates with links to key published material through them.

  • High quality, readable content should be a priority

No matter how good your SEO strategy is and no matter how well you have promoted your content, your website will continue to receive poor ranking in searches if your content isn’t good enough. Google’s latest algorithms are smart enough to know when poor content has been optimized and when a website’s content is high quality but not as well optimized.  And guess what? Google’s web bots prefer the latter. However, getting the balance between the two right isn’t rocket science. Even if you spend a whole working day researching, developing, optimizing, publishing and promoting 1-3 posts, you would have posts between 5 and 15 as very high quality, well optimized and well promoted at the end of every week.

  • Never skip out on search phrases

While folks that have been using search engines for a better part of the last decade know that search words get more accurate results than search phrases, the fact remains that search phrases have become a major part of searches these days. In fact, search engine assign a higher rank to WebPages that use search phrases since they provide a more accurate match to a particular search. The trick to getting this right would be to ensure that you do not use very long search phrases or it will show up as plagiarism.

  • Update your site regularly

Thanks to Google Panda and Penguin, websites with outdates content are automatically going to be assigned a lower ranking in searches. However, the same updates also ensure that fresh content gets a better ranking and sites that update regularly show up higher in searches. For new websites or those that are struggling to make their mark, this can be a great way to boost ranking. You can either go all guns blazing or make many updates through the week that may leave you and your staff exhausted to get immediate results or you can build a system of updating that requires you to make a few updates every other day though it gets you results after a certain period of time only.
