Marketing a Business with a Small Budget
Seeds of Wellness llc opened in October, 2010. We are doing well, but having a hard time getting people to know we exist. Over the holidays, we advertised in the three gift guide of a newspaper in our local area. We did receive some new customers, but not many. Posting fliers requires driving time and finding locations that have community boards in the area. I have learned that laundry mats and grocery stores are the best places to post fliers. We even did a mass mailing to local businesses with little success.
Our website is up and running, and we put our store information on as many free directories we could find. This is helping our name be found on search engines. It is also giving us a way to direct traffic to our website.
Social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and this site are also being use to inform people about our store. So far, only friends have come into the store based on the information posted on these sites and follow the information on a regular bases.
However, word of mouth is becoming our best advertising. In order to encourage returning customers to tell their friends and family members about us, we are offering a Referral Reward Program. The customer takes our business card and writes their name on the back of it. They give these business cards to other people. When a person purchases an item from the store and gives us the business card with the person's name on the back, we send the person who referred them a $1 off coupon good for 30 days. They can combined coupons with any purchase. Our customer's are liking the program.
With all this marketing, we still have days without anyone walking into the door. Does anyone have suggestions on other marketing strategies that are low cost and effective?
We really appreciate your help.
