Legends Of Our Times - Stieg Larsson And Alexander Dumas
Many bestsellers have appeared during a year and has remained on the forefronts of literary reviews and press only to be put to oblivion after passage of a couple of years. Today, most readers even do not know that such best sellers ever existed and they will raise a questioning glance at the mention of one or more of these novels and books or other literary creations. However there are exceptions like the creations of William Shakespere and there are also a few others from the historical times like the great French author Alexander Dumas who have never gone out of the minds of the readers and remains there even today after the passage of a century.
Different Times and Different Personalities
With the difference of times different personalities have become legends in the literary world. Their styles, theme and presentation are different from one another as it happened in case of the 19th Century writer Alexander Dumas and the 21st Century writer Stieg Larsson. Both are legends of our times in their own rights and both have great fan followings. Stories of Dumas like The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, 20 Years After, and The Man in the Iron Mask had feudal and princely state backgrounds. They also depicted the political scenario of the time with King Louise and Cardinal Richileu among other major characters and the French-English conflicts and relationships through a romantic episode of the Queen of France and Cardinal of England. What made them extremely popular was the fast paced stories full of entertainment, excitement, and adventure.
Torch Bearer of 21st Century
In the same analogy Stieg Larsson can be termed as the torch bearer of the fast paced and exciting adventures for the readers during the inception of the 21st century. Starting the Millennium trilogies with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and following up with The Girl who played with Fire as well as The Girl who hit the Hornet’s Nest he completed one of the most thrilling and engrossing stories featuring a lady as the central character in the novels. In between he came up with the Fifty Shades of Grey but the popularity was not as much as in comparison to the Millennium trilogies.
What the Millennium Trilogy Offers
The Millennium Trilogy written by Larsson, the author also of the novel Fifty Shades of Grey tells the story of a disappeared millionaire Harriet Vanger of Sweden. Mikael Blomkvist, a journalist was hired by the uncle of the disappeared person to find out what happened to her. The journalist was aided by Lisbeth Salander a tattooed computer specialist in solving the mystery. What follows is an engrossing saga of deceit, planning, and mystery.
Both Larsson and Dumas are legends of our time and both remain living in the minds of readers long after their death and it seems that their popularity is still growing with the passage of time.
