You can’t always advertise your home based affiliate business the same way as just any other product or service. Affiliate Marketing businesses are not always received well on all social networking and Internet Marketing sites.
It may not seem fair, but affiliate opportunities do sometimes get discriminated against. I’m sure you’ve encountered social sites, forums and other places online where you are not allowed to post affiliate links. This can be confusing and discouraging for entrepreneurs.
The main reason affiliate programs run into this challenge is because over the years some enthusiastic marketers have over-used and abused their privileges and have flooded the social sites with promotional links and hyped-up business offers.
As a result of this, you are not always as free to advertise your home based affiliate business on every social and membership site that you would like to.
The good news is there are still a number of ways you CAN advertise and promote your affiliate opportunities. Here are a few ideas.
1. Blogging: As most marketers know, blogging is a great way to highlight and promote your affiliate home business opportunities. However, you have to be careful where you host your blog because some free blogging sites do not allow affiliate links.
The best way to assure that you have complete creative control over the text and links you include in your blog posts is to host your blog on your own domain. You can register a domain name and then install a WordPress blog on your site. My Affiliate Power Central website is an example: Home Based Affiliate Business
Web hosting is so inexpensive these days, and services like WordPress make it so easy to set up a site, that there is absolutely no excuse not to register a domain name and begin blogging like the professional marketers do. Then you are completely free to promote your affiliate links however you want to.
2. Email Marketing: This is another great way to promote your affiliate opportunities. There are a couple of ways you can approach email marketing:
a. Build your own list: Once you have registered a domain and set up your own website, you can add an opt-in form to your web pages where you will collect the email addresses of subscribers. In order to encourage visitors to subscribe, you should offer some freebie resources or better yet, an informative home business newsletter.
b. Advertise in eZines: Some marketers create electronic magazines that they email to their subscribers. Some of these marketers sell ad space in these eZines. You probably receive a number of them in your daily email. Watch for high quality examples and contact the publishers for advertising information.
c. Pay other marketers to send your ads to their lists: Some marketers will let you piggyback your ads when they email their own offers to their lists.
3. Article Marketing: While most article directories do not let you include affiliate links, or self-serving web links of any sort, in the articles you submit, most do allow you to include an author resource section with some details about you or your business and a couple of web links of your choice. You have two choices: you can use links to your website or blog page, or you can use affiliate links. In either case, it is best to use anchor text (hyperlinks) to make the link look more appealing. Also, it is also good to use anchor text with your own website link for purposes of search engine optimization (SEO).
There you have three good ways to advertise and promote your affiliate business opportunities. If you have ever been discouraged by social sites and membership sites that don’t let you include affiliate links, now you know that there are alternatives.
Here is one more tip. Since most sites will let you include links back to your own website, here’s what I recommend: Register a domain, set up a blog, write and post reviews of your affiliate opportunities, then post the review links on social and membership sites (where allowed, of course, and in the appropriate sections and categories).
Now that you know how to advertise your home based affiliate business, you no longer have to feel at the complete mercy of sites that do not allow affiliate links. Go forth and prosper!
