Heroic Houston Jewelry Store Owner Saves Wife, Kills Three Would-be Robbers
Originally published by me, on the Yahoo! Contributor Network, December 16th, 2010
A little good news always cheers folks up. Today, the news reported three less dummies in the city of Houston. A trio consisting of three males (Some reports stated earlier it was one female and two males) attempted to rob Castillo's Jewelry 4502 Canal Street around 2 p.m., at gunpoint. They might have even survived it too, until one of the would-be robbers grabbed the store owner's wife, and began pushing her to the back of the store.
It was at that point, according to KHOU-TV Houston, that the store owner gave one of the would-be robbers a final lesson in target practice, with the robber serving as the target. He then ducked behind the counter, grabbed a shotgun, and showed the other two thugs the error of their ways.
Courageous jeweler rushed to hospital from his injuries
During the gunfight, Mr Castillo was shot, and has been rushed to Ben Taub Hospital. Mr Castillo is reported to be in fair condition at this time. His wife was unhurt, thanks to his heroic move. Good for you, Mr Castillo! Let's all hope this man makes a full recovery from his gunshot wounds to the shoulder and abdomen. Out of respect for the family's privacy, hospital staff is not releasing any additional details of his condition.
Three Houston robbers picked the wrong guy to rob.
A quick search online for the business listing reveals Mr Castillo has a reputation for being an honest businessman, who takes pride in his work, with a knack for customer satisfaction. There is no information available about whether Mr Castillo is planning to return to working in the jewelry business or not. But there are certainly three hoodlums who have left Houston's crime business. Let this be a warning to would-be criminals everywhere: Good, honest, productive citizens will not tolerate being robbed. If you need money, and are unemployed, take up a paper-route.

NZ law is ridiculously slanted in favour of the "poor, misunderstood criminal" and people who "take the law into their own hands" often end up in jail or at least with a hefty fine for being so presumptuous as to try and protect their belongings and/or their relatives. I'm with you on this one. Three less criminals in the city can't be bad, can it.
