Cara Delevingne cuts ties with modelling agency
Cara’s mission to distinguish herself as a serious actress is complete: the 22-year-old is no longer represented by a modelling agency but by an acting agent.
Delevingne, who is currently filming her part in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, is set to grace cinema screens in Paper Towns, Pan, Kids in Love, London Fields and Tulip Fever this year alone.
The Londoner was scouted by Sarah Doukas, the same Storm Models executive who spotted supermodel Kate Moss, while she was still at secondary school.
Delevingne started modelling for ASOS but was quickly welcomed into the Burberry family by its boss Christopher Bailey and her star quickly ascended: she’s since been booked for campaigns by Chanel, Burberry, Fendi, Pepe Jeans, La Perla, Balmain, Topshop and was invited to collaborate on collections for DKNY and Mulberry.
But modelling was never her ambition, it was simply a post-school job which snowballed and distracted her for several years, mainly thanks to her vivacious energy backstage and huge presence on Instagram.
She’s not been shy in shooting down her experience as a model, either. She recently told the Wall Street Journal that modelling left her feeling “a bit empty”, explaining how: “Fashion is about what's on the outside, and that's it. There's no searching, it's just creating pretty things."
She also went on the record saying: "It's horrible living in a world where I'll get a call from someone saying, so-and-so says you were partying a lot and you were looking this way and you need to lose weight. It makes me so angry. If you don't want to hire me, don't hire me."
The bushy-browed star is the current Vogue cover girl in America and told her interviewer that “The thrill of acting is making a character real. Modeling is the opposite of real. It’s being fake in front of the camera.”
With that out in the open, she’s no longer on Storm’s books and is instead being represented by top American acting agency, William Morris.
But she still can’t shake off her former profession entirely; she’s still gracing make-up counters across the world as the face of Yves Saint Laurent’s beauty line and cosying up to Kate Moss in a trench coat for as the ambassador of the My Burberry fragrance. The pair are also set to star together in Spanish retailer Mango’s campaign this autumn.
