CAD Design and Drafting Services for Persons With Disabilities
Man is but a small unit of the society, and like everyone else The AEC Associates CAD design and drafting services also have to work as a responsible unit of the society. According to an estimate, nearly ten percent of the world population faces disability of one kind or the other. This makes it mandatory for the CAD design and Drafting Services to consider their specific needs and requirements while designing buildings and facilities. In fact, most of us face some kind of disability at some time or the other during our lifetime- a little child, an elderly person with restricted mobility, a person with a fractured leg, a person weakened by some debilitating disease- these are a few of the examples where even a normal person may face a disability like situation. The design of any building or facility must, therefore, take into consideration the special needs and requirements of persons with disabilities to enable them to lead a normal life.
Several countries have made it legally binding for the designers to provide a minimum set of facilities to the disabled persons. For this purpose building and town planning codes have been developed and implemented in many countries, especially the developed countries leading the way, to provide accessibility to persons with disabilities. This is not considered a favor anymore, this, in fact, is their right in order to be able to avail of equal opportunities in the society. The perception of the society has undergone a sea change during past few decades and it is now acknowledged that there is enormous potential in these persons, rightly called differently abled persons now. It is indeed unfair to let this potential go waste by not providing them a level playing field.
Types of disabilities:
When we talk about the specific needs and requirements of PWD (persons with disabilities), the 3D CAD design services have to be aware of the different types of disabilities they have to cater for. These categories can be classified broadly as follows:
· Wheel chair users
· People with limited walking abilities, like people using crutches etc
· The sightless persons
· The partially sighted persons
· The hearing impaired persons
Different sets of requirements:
All these above mentioned categories have different sets of requirements, therefore, need different design considerations. For example, a wheel chair user would need a ramp to move between various floor levels, but a ramp wouldn’t be suitable for a person using crutches, a staircase has to be provided for such persons. While a sightless person needs to be provided with a tactile sign and sound based systems in order to enable them to know number of the floor and their exact location, a hearing impaired would need visual signs for the purpose.
It’s the social, moral and also statutory responsibility of the CAD drafting services to design buildings and facilities that are fully accessible for the persons with disabilities. This is, however, a very detailed subject, and the designers must do a thorough research so that they may be able to provide all the needed amenities and facilities to the disabled persons.
