Article Writing Tips: Writing A Marketing Article Naturally

Jul 7th 2010 at 8:46 AM

If you aren’t accustomed to it, writing a marketing article can seem like a difficult thing to do, but it can become a very natural extension of yourself. In the beginning it can be quite intimidating but once you have learned the basics it can come quite naturally, so here are some article writing tips to help you.

At the outset the first thing that you need to do when writing a marketing article is to study your subject matter and become truly interested in it. If it is something that you are passionate about it certainly helps, however, if there isn’t that passion you can still educate yourself.

To ask the questions that you would be asking if you were interested in the product or service is the second thing that you need to do when writing a good marketing article. Be sure to ask the WWWWWH questions i.e. Who, What, When, Where, Why, How. Look for questions that people really have but also ask the basic ones. You may have to do some research to find out the most asked questions if you aren’t intimately familiar with the material. Ensure that they are questions that you can not only answer adequately, authoritatively and accurately and but that make the reader want to know more about what you are trying to offer them.

Remember though that the goal of the article is to get your readers to want to go to wherever it is you want them to go or to take the action you want them to take. Usually an article is going to have the intention of making them click a link so they can go to another site where you ask them to buy. So answer most of the questions but ask more questions than you answer in your article and let them know that to find the rest of the answers they are going to have to follow that link.

Incredibly important are the opening and closing paragraphs of a marketing article. Your opening paragraph has to make them want to read the rest of the article all the way to the end so it must include what would keep you interested. Ask yourself the question: what is it that I am going to try to say, would this really keep my interest and what would capture my attention? Have a look at other articles and see what it is that catches your eye and use that for inspiration.

Your closing paragraph of the article has only one purpose and that is to make them follow your lead. Remember that you have to not only give them the reason to click on that link or follow your desired course of action but you also have to ask them to do it. It is not often that a link by itself will get clicked as people want to be asked or told what to do. They need direction and that is why they are reading your article in the first place. So give them the direction that they need to take and tell them or ask them to do what you want them to do.

When you start writing a marketing article just keep in your mind that you are telling someone about this product or service and that the person you are talking to is truly interested in what you have to say. Your readers will find this really exciting because you are giving them what they want, and this is information about something that is important to them. So if you can talk to a friend intelligently about something that you have a mutual interest in then you can easily write a marketing article naturally.

I have followed an adage that you (Cyn) gave me my first days of IM. Write about what you know. If you are new to IM than tell people your experiences, what you have learned etc. The more natural your 'voice', the better the article.

Thank you, good tips. If you allow me, I would like to add one thing I consider crucial. I got it from Dale Carnegie book. If you don't like people whatever your story is no one will read it. So, better begin liking others :) and start from your self. Possibly, there are more 'things' to be added but I guess that this is what Cynthia can teach you better than I :)
