Article Marketing Strategy: New Rules of Marketing “Revealed”

Oct 3rd 2010 at 5:42 PM

It wasn’t that long ago that Internet Marketing was pretty simple. You buy or write an ebook or other products, like software, and put up a website and wait for the traffic to find you. You might drive some of that traffic to your website with forum postings or blog comments and you would make sales.

As everything does over time, the rules of Internet Marketing seem to change every couple of years, if not sooner. As soon as Internet Marketing got established as a lucrative online income producer, old applications and techniques rapidly vanished and were replaced by new actions. Yet, the one thing that remains the same is that in Internet Marketing- Articles rule!

One of the driving forces behind the rapid changes that are becoming the new rules of internet marketing, is the influence of all the social marketing sites that are so popular. At first, submitting an article once in a while to one or two directories was all you needed to do to get traffic. Now, you have to make traffic generation a serious part of your daily business tasks.

So, how do you get into this article marketing overhaul yourself? The first thing you have to accept and remember is that marketing on the web has changed, evolved into something alive and vibrant, due a lot to social marketing sites like Twitter and Facebook. Old tactics, like link building or exchanges with other marketers are dead and no longer useful.

One of the most useful “new” techniques is blogging with a WordPress platform. WordPress is a free open source content management system (CMS) that includes custom templates you can find for no cost all over the Internet and integrated statistics for your business strategies. It also allows you to develop a large ping list.

(Ping List: application that updates your blog on the services you choose to notify whenever you have a new blog post)

You also need your own Opt-In-List in order to market to subscribers to your sites or blogs. If you take care and build real relationships with your list, you will develop loyal customers for years. Building your list is probably the most important thing you can do to become an Internet Marketer success story.

Membership forums have become golden to serious online marketers. Join the one’s you find in your specific niche and pay close attention to the problems forum members talk about. Offering helpful suggestions or actual solutions to their published problems will get you a following from an appreciative audience. Make sure you can put a link to your blog or site in your signature and many of the people you’ve helped will check out your websites…organic traffic that Google loves.

Social Marketing has turned the Internet upside down and made several marketing strategies outdated in a very short time. Besides a place to exchange information about your life and family with others, it is a red hot marketing site if you investigate each site’s rules about advertising before you do anything. Ignoring that warning will get you banned for life.

Consider that Facebook has over 500,000,000 members and you can see how serious checking all the rules and regulations can be. Would you be happy if you lost half a billion possible new customers because you were too lazy to read the regulations? Each social marketing/networking site has their own set of rules and regulations.

With all of these changes, articles are still an important and lucrative method to drive traffic to your sites. Your article marketing strategy has to change when you realize that in the past, most of your article traffic came from the larger article directories like EzineArticles.

Great post full of useful tips! My site is fairly new and I am also having a hard time getting my readers to leave comments. Analytics shows they are coming to the site but I have a feeling “nobody wants to be first” See :
