A Way forward to Sustainable Development in Nepal
The combination of prosperity without impacting our motherly planet and in same time improving the life of some of the needy is becoming a new theme of doing business. People have become more educated and want to know those reputed organizations who work responsibly. Here, the responsibility referred is not only about the corporate duties but duty of these corporate towards their planet and their people. The Corporate Social Responsibility is becoming an important part of today’s business culture as it makes society an integral and vital aspect of business. The foundation of CSR is laid on three Ps - People, Profits and Planet. In the modern era, Corporate have started realizing the sense of this triple bottom line to their growing business.
When one is considering CSR activity in Nepal, it is perceived as an important opportunity for bringing peace and prosperity in the country. Thus in Nepal, it has become more than doing good to the poor or less privileged people. Some of the activities that make part of this commitment are improving and developing livelihood; Children focused development programmes that especially involves promoting girl education; provision of women health facilities taking into consideration their protection from reproductive health issues and many other social issues.
In this lieu, the prospering Vishal Group made a remarkable contribution to educating the Nepali Youth. The group has given Nepalis to Nepalis scholarships by the name, Sadbhaw Scholarships at Narsingh Secondary School, Birjung. These scholarships have been awarded to forty one girls and nineteen boys this year. This initiative has been started with the beautiful aim of educating Nepali youth of all the 75 districts of Nepal each year. The scholarship distribution program had technical and financial support from Vishal Group Foundation and Himalayan Climate Initiative. Moreover, the Chairman, Vishal Group had committed to provide Rs 1 million each year for 10 years to facilitate the effective accomplishment of the CSR goals for abiding commitment by business to contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the society at large.
The concept of CSR has taken its roots from innovation and the technique to take advantage of opportunities. The rise of CSR activity in Nepal results once the corporate realized the benefit of partnering with the NGOs working with special communities that further helps in furthering the business goals. In addition to this, the educated consumer class has now become aware and also keen to know how the manufacturing of the products affects our planet and about treatment of businesses to their employees.
