3 Steps To Generating Affiliate Marketing Income

One of the easiest ways of starting an online business is through affiliate marketing. This is a very effective way of developing your online presence, and building your list...IF you do it properly.

These are the steps you need to take if you want to grow your list and your affiliate commissions.

1. Do your research. Check out the programs you're thinking about promoting. Don't risk your credibility by promoting illegal or questionable programs. Obviously, you will want to promote products that give you the most income in the shortest possible time. You will also have greater credibility and knowledge if you are actually using what you are promoting. No matter how good a program or tool is, you will not be a good affiliate for it if you have never used it. Once you've experienced it, you can even write a short article promoting it.

An article is a great way to connect with your prospects. The main factors to consider when doing this are obvious when you stop to think about them.  You will probably be one of many affiliates promoting the same product, especially if it's a good one. So, it is important to establish your USP - or 'Unique Selling Position'.

Offer an incentive, a little something extra, if you can, that will have you stand out from the crowd. This is where a free report or free article can help set you apart.  Article writing is a good way to give yourself greater credibility and an extra edge. Simply write a short article to give away as an incentive to potential buyers.

Of course, the information that you give away should be free, and it must be worthwhile. If you give away good free information, people will be more likely to make a purchase based on your recommendations.  Write just enough information to whet their appetite for the actual product.

2. Capture the names and email addresses of all the people who download your free reports, articles or e-books. It has been proven that it can take as many as seven contacts before someone is ready to make a buying decision. Building your list is critical.

This is where an autoresponder is invaluable. You can create a whole series of follow-up messages to send to these prospects to entice them into buying your product. Automate this process by using a lead capture page and capitalize on the free report.

Once you have these prospects on your list, they are yours. This means that you can send them information in the months ahead about other products you're promoting or other programs you're in, whether or not they purchased or joined from your original offer.  Treat them properly, they are like gold.  They do have the prerogative to unsubscribe.

If you develop a relationship with them, they will trust you and your recommendations. Then they are likely to buy from you again or follow you into the programs you are promoting. They may stay with you for years. Remember, people do business with people they know, like and trust. Become that person.

3. Establish a relationship with the product owner if possible. Affiliates are needed to market and promote their offers and programs. If you are very well-respected, with a big following, program owners may be willing to offer you a bigger percentage, or sometimes an upgraded membership for free, for all your advertising efforts. Program owners with whom you foster good relationships may even give you advance notice when they are getting ready to launch another program, giving you an opportunity to create a joint-venture with them.

Using active resources can also give you a large, fast return on your advertising dollars with your ad being well-received by a responsive audience in your market. With any advertising campaigns, track your results.  If you don't know who's clicking what, you'll never know which ads are working.

There are any number of ad trackers on the market. Regardless of what service you use, don't underestimate the importance of knowing where your sales and prospects are coming from. If you are not tracking, you are probably losing money and wasting time.

By using these tips, you'll soon see the size of your list growing, and an increase in your affiliate commissions. So, do your research, capture your prospects information, and establish a relationship with the programs owners.  Continue to work every day to build your list. Remember, the money is in the list!
