What is T-Ball and How to Play It?
The Tee-ball or T-ball is a sport which is the younger brother of baseball game. The T-ball is a team sport, designed in a simple and easy way for younger kids, which are between 4 to 8 years of age. T-ball sport objective is to equip the children’s with baseball skills and attract more and more children towards this game.
This sport allows the young children to develop the skilled required to play the baseball. The young children can learn all the skills which are required in a standard baseball using this game and can have fun. These include batting, catching, throwing and running the bases. There is an association known as Tee-ball association, which allows children between 4 to 8 years in age to play in the league.
How to Play Tee-Ball
In Tee-ball game, the ball is not pitched as in baseball, rather it is placed on a resting tee; the player hits the ball which is placed on the tee. The tee is a movable, flexible and height adjustable structure where the ball is kept for hitting. The tee does not refer to the structure’s shape. The structure shape is simply up-right. This tee allows the younger kid to play the ball easily and without hurting them with a pitching ball. A tee ball coach arranges the players in lineup and fielding position in scorebook. Pitcher and the first base positions get the most action in tee ball, followed by infield positions.
Some league includes catchers while others do not includes catcher. In some games, gentle pitching can be used for some grown kid or skilled one. These variations are according to the age of the player and the skills they have developed in the game. Pitcher mostly in the tee ball game are used for defensive purpose only, there is no other purpose. The game is started by placing the ball on the top of the stationary tee; the striker hits the ball. In some exceptions, coaches pitch the ball gently a few times to the batter so he can gain skills in batting. The playing area for the tee ball is very smaller than the regular baseball area. In most tee games, the youngest player runs and outs are not recorded in the scorebook. Also every player gets an opportunity to bat every inning.
In the game, mostly parents encourage their kids by doing the duty of umpiring. The bat for the tee ball is also different from the standard baseball. The bat is 25 to 25 inch long, 2.25 inches in diameter and 17 to 20 oz in weight.
The balls are softer and lighter to reduce the risk of injury to the young players. The ball is 9 to 9.5 inches in diameter and between 4 to 5 oz. weights. The footwear is normal athletic shoes. The gloves maximum size is 12 inches. In order to enhance the safety the helmets are mandatory for each and every tee ball player. The T-Ball USA Association, of West Palm beach, Florida is a non-profit organization of T-ball. It’s a member of USA baseball.
