Some Ways to Keep Your Room Cool Without an Air Conditioner
If you live in one of those places with warm and humid climate throughout the year, you might be constantly in the lookout for ways to keep your houses cool.
Air conditioning and other cooling appliances cost a huge sum in electricity bills each season. While it is not possible to totally stop using them, there are some practices that can reduce the need for these appliances to be used.
Here are some ways that can help you keep your houses cooler and reduce the need for using an air conditioner:
Keep windows open during nights
Try to keep as many windows open during nights so the cool air outside can enter your rooms. When you let the cool air enter your rooms during the evening time and night, the temperature of the rooms will go down helping to use the cooling appliances during this time of the day.
Block sunlight from entering during day time
During the day time, keep your windows shut, with the shades and/or curtains on, so that the sunlight does not enter your rooms. If you do not let the warm air or light enter the rooms during the day, the low room temperature will sustain. You may consider doing this even if you do not stay home during the day time.
Consider a new window treatment option
If you do not have an energy efficient window option already, it is worth investing in one. When you have the right window coverings, you save up to 50% on air conditioning costs each year. You can opt for stylish external window blinds as a window covering option. External blinds and plantation shutters are trending window covering options these days. They come in different materials; you can choose the one that fits the best to the climatic conditions in your location.
If you are not looking at investing too much on the window coverings, you may want to add curtains that would block excessive light from entering your rooms during day time.
Use exhaust fans or ceiling fans to ventilate air
When you leave the windows open during the morning and evening time, make sure you use an exhaust fan/a ceiling fan to ventilate air. This will freshen up the room with cool air and let go off the warm air in the room.
Have some plants around
If you have a small garden or even some plants in pots, it helps you house remain cooler than usual. It is great idea to have some plants around the windows and doors or your house. You can also get some indoor plants; they look good and do a great deal in lowering the room temperature. Plants and trees in and around your house have a great visual impact too.
Following these simple things as daily practices can help you save a lot in your electricity bills each year, as well as, keep your rooms cooler during summer months.
