Why do some people snore?

Jun 22nd 2014 at 9:53 PM

It is estimated that in the world of snoring are facing two billion people. Only in Poland "chrapaczy" is about eight million. Among 30-year-olds this problem affects one in five men and 5% of women. In the age group 60 + is still prevalent - affects as many as 60% of men and 40% women.

Loud trouble
When I can not sleep, airflows freely through our respiratory system , because the muscles of the throat are then strained. During sleep, however, can be relaxed - then inhaled air puts them in vibration, the language falls further narrowing towards the rear of the respiratory tract, and throat emits a characteristic sound of snoring.

Reduced muscle tone can have many causes. Reduce them, for example, alcohol, and some sleeping pills, sedatives, and antihistamines used to treat allergies.

- Snoring may also be related to the anatomy of the upper respiratory tract - elongated soft palate, tongue too long or oversized tonsils, and nasal patency

disorders caused by curvature of the nasal septum, nasal polyps, allergies or the common cold - explains Dr. Paul Szwedowicz MD, otolaryngologist Medicover hospital.
Snoring also promotes overweight and sleeping on your back.

Dangerous apnea
Although it seems to us that the problem primarily Trouble force close "chrapacza," it must not be underestimated. It is a signal that during sleepairencounters an obstacle in its path, so it enters into the lungs less. Snoring can also be accompanied by serious pain, which is sleep apnea , which is a temporary condition involving respiratory arrest, which may last from a few seconds to several minutes.

- During the night, such situations can be repeated dozens or even hundreds of times. This not only disrupts sleep , but it is dangerous for your health, because during sleep decreases saturation, that is, blood oxygen, thus the pressure increases, and the heart is working faster - says Agnieszka MD Strzembosz, otolaryngologist Medicover hospital.

This is why people with apnea are tired when you wake up and have headaches and daytime sleepiness getting to them, they have problems with memory and attention span. Our body gives us some other signals - for example, accompanying snoring loudly bedside chest pain, pauses in breathing, coughing, wheezing or snorting during sleep, frequent awakening, sexual problems and depression.
