The ovary contains thousands of follicles in each of which an unfertilized egg cell is located. The beginning of each menstrual cycle the pituitary gland (pituitary ), follicle-stimulating hormone into the bloodstream, resulting in some of the follicles start to achieve, and the fastest of them (usually one, rarely two or more) fully matures.

The follicles produce estrogen during maturation, estrogen levels rise marks the pituitary gland that is no longer a need for more follicle-stimulating hormone.

If the blood is sufficiently elevated estrogen levels, the pituitary hormone production is initiated by another of luteinizing hormone. This hormone is responsible for migrate desert mature follicles and acolytes in the follicle and also from the ovary (ovulation).
