As fitness regimes get more and more technologically creative, sometimes going back to basics seems like the most appealing option.

Body Weight Training is as simple as it comes and carrying on from last year, this basic approach is set to sore right through 2014.

Fitness First’s Health & Fitness Expert, Lee Matthews says: “The aim is to go back to basics in 2014. High tech gadgets are getting pushed to one side”.

Body weight training includes very little or no equipment, as you use your own body as a form of resistance.

Typically exercises like press-ups, push-ups, climbs, crawls and planks make up body weight training, but things like TRX in gyms can also do the job.

The best thing is that you can do body weight training anywhere you like. From the mats at the gym to in front of the TV at home and is one of the most effective ways of using your body to boost your fitness.

Outdoor Challenges

Mud runs and obstacle courses are set to be bigger than ever before. Throughout 2013 here has been a huge rise in people wanting to ditch the gym for something a little bit more exciting and challenging outdoors and this is set to rise right through this next year.

Challenges like Diva Dash, Dirty Girl, Tough Mudder and the Spartan Race are seeing a huge increase in their female fanbase and we can see why.

Featuring things like mud crawls, clmbing over hay bales, scaling walls and wading through water - and lets not forget, a LOT of mud -  we can't think of a better way to want to get fit.

Obviously these challenges don't take place all the time and jumping into puddles around your local park could get you some weird as looks.

Thankfully for us all there’s also been a huge increase in personal trainers offering specific outdoor group classes and bootcamps so you can get involved all year round
