If a testicular biopsy is performed under local anesthesia, no special procedure is required.
How is the exam?
This biopsy is done by a surgeon or a doctor who comes to reproductive health problems in men (urologist) in an outpatient surgical facility or a hospital doctor's office.
The patient lies on her back on an examination table. The skin over the testicle is cleaned with an antiseptic solution, and the area around it is covered with a sterile cloth. A local anesthetic is injected the scrotal skin in the area to become numb.
Then, a small incision is made through the skin, and a small piece of testicular tissue is removed with a small scissors. A single stitch is used to close the incision in the testis, and another point is used to close the skin incision.
The process is generally repeated in testicular other. The scrotal area is then bandaged. And the patient is asked to use an athletic supporter for several days after the procedure to help support the testicles while the incisions heal.
Biopsy typically takes 15 to 20 minutes. The patient is usually advised to abstain from sexual activity for 1-2 weeks after the biopsy. And should be avoided wash the area for several days.
There is a small risk of prolonged bleeding or infection by this procedure. There is no risk of erection problems or fertility as a result of this biopsy. If general anesthesia is used, there is a small risk of complications from anesthesia.
A condition examines the biopsy sample through a microscope for any abnormality on sperm production and maturation. The results are usually available within 2 to 4 days.
