was already known that the consumption of one hundred grams of food per day chocolate could bring down the voltage but medicine ignored the effects of small quantities of dark chocolate rich in cocoa and low in sugar and fat, explained Dirk Tuber of University Hospital of Cologne, Germany, and lead author of the study.
The clinical trial, conducted between January 2005 and December 2006, included 44 adults, 24 women and 20 men, aged 56 to 73 years, and reached the pre-hypertension or hypertension.
Subjects were divided into two groups, who ate each day for 18 weeks 6.3 grams of dark chocolate, 30 mg of pole final and the second ingested the equivalent amount of chocolate White without poly phenol.
Poly phenol is a potent antioxidant which appears to have a dilatory effect of the arteries.
Researchers found that people who consumed an average dark chocolate reign stave decreasing its voltage without changing weight of fat in the blood and glucose.
Conversely, subjects who consumed chocolate showed no change in blood pressure.
This study will be published in the Journal of The American Medical Association on Wednesday.
