Also known as insulin resistance syndrome or Syndrome X, metabolic syndrome is an evil of our century. The ease of life these days make many people sit back and do exercises, having a sedentary lifestyle. Linked to other factors, physical inactivity leads to metabolic syndrome, which increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

What is metabolic syndrome?
Basically, the metabolic syndrome is a resistance to insulin action in the body, which causes the pancreas to produce more of this hormone.

This syndrome is linked to a set of factors that affect metabolism. Among the risk factors are the increase in abdominal fat and obesity, high blood pressure , high levels of blood glucose, increased triglycerides and decreased good cholesterol.

The highest risk group is men over 40 years. But women are not free from suffering metabolic syndrome. Most women who have this disease suffer from polycystic ovaries and entered menopause. Official figures from the International Diabetes Federation says a quarter of the world's adult population has metabolic syndrome.
