How to clean dental implants?
If you have got dental implants to replace your single or multiple teeth, make sure you clean them properly. The success of implant surgery depends on keeping the mouth as clean and as hygienic as possible. Here are some cleaning tips to keep your dental implants neat and clean.
Your dentist would give you a mouthwash after the dental implant surgery. Use this mouthwash to gently bathe the surgical site for at least one minute. Do it for three times a day and continue using the mouthwash for at least a week.
Hot salt mouthwash is very effective in healing. Hold the hot salt mouthwash in the mouth for a few seconds till it cools down. It may taste awful but would do wonders for your implants, allowing them to heal quickly.
Clean your dental implants like you clean your normal teeth with a toothbrush. Just avoid brushing the surgical site for first few days. You can brush the implants once the site has healed and is not painful or tender to touch.
Do not smoke until the wound has healed completely as this may slow down the healing process.
Eat soft foods on the day of the surgery and drink plenty of water. Do not eat or drink anything hot on the first day following the surgery and avoid drinking anything with a straw.
Once the implants have healed, follow proper oral hygiene including brushing and flossing to keep them neat and clean and to prevent onset of dental plaque and other dental problems.
