Just how can disease prevention using superfoods occur? Everyone knows that not all foods are the same. What we may not realize it just how helpful many foods are. There are many foods that fall into the catorgory of super foods. For a comprehensive list visit my blog where I give a extensive list of super foods. Today though I really want to tell you how these foods help in the prevention of many common disease's. Cancer the big C as well as heart disease, diabetes which is currently at epidemic levels as well as many others.

Let me assure you superfoods are not new. You most likely have in your crisper or even a fruit bowl many of these terrific foods. What is new though is the realization of how these foods work and just how they help in the prevention and sometimes healing of disease according to independent health studies.

A super food is a food that is nutritionally dense, high in fiber and believed to fight disease and increase you longivity. Who doesn't want to live longer? Most super foods are found in nature and need no processing. Berries are one such food especially blueberries and strawberries. This is terrific news for those who love berries and they are currently in season.

The reason super foods help in fighting disease is that they are packed full of pyto-chemicals. Phyto-chemicals are found in fruits, vegetables, beans and grains as well as other plant products like spices. Beta carotene, vitamin C and E and folic acid are some of the well known phyto-chemicals.

Phyto- chemicals have an antioxidant or hormone like action in the body. This means they attack free radicals in the body, free radicals damage DNA and trigger different forms of cancer. Pyto-estrogens in these superfoods and are thought to play a role in fighting hormone-dependent cancers like breast and prostate cancers. Antioxidants have been known for sometime to help with disease's like heart disease.

So eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, soy, whole grains, omega3 fish, and nuts is very important to support ongoing good health. If you currently suffer from heart disease, diabetes or some other illness well a diet rich in these foods may help to bring you back to good health. If you are at risk for any of these disease's mentioned than you need to be getting on the change your diet bandwagon today because prevention is the key to longivity.

For more about these terrific super foods see my blog or visit our site. You will find many articles that will help you on your road to health and help you maintain a healthy lifestyle. As a registered nurse I have always enjoyed educating others on how to prevent and fight disease. You can do it. It really is not that hard and with so many super foods to choose from you can do it without feeling deprived. Healthy eating to you.
