They contain polysaccarides, especially lentinan which is a helpful compound in building immunity. Mushrooms also have this protein called lectin, this protein attacks cancerous cells and prevents them from multiplying. Because mushrooms also contain thioproline they can stimulate the production of interferon in the body. So which mushrooms should you begin adding to your diet. Shiitake, murill, maitake, reishi and coriolus is a good place to start.

Kale has a nitrogen compound indoles which may help stop certain lesions to cancerous cells in estrogen-sensitive tissues from converting. Also phytochemicals which are found in kale, help to suppress tumor growth and block cancer-causing substances from ever reaching their targets. So pick up that kale and add it to your grocery list.

Broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower has this component called indole-3-carbinol that is found to combat breast cancer. It does this by converting a cancer promoting estrogen into a variety that is protective. Also found in broccoli is a phytochemical called sulforaphane which is believed to prevent certain types of cancer like colon and rectal cancer. Sulforaphane has been shown to produce enzymes that deactivate free radicals and carcinogens. This phytochemical is especially prevalent in broccoli sprouts. So be sure to pick up these vegetables next time you're in the produce aisle of your local grocer.

How many ways can you find to eat a carrot. Carrots which contain beta carotene and a substance called falcarinol are a terrific cancer fighting food. A study by the Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences shown a slower growth in cancer cells when exposed to Falcarinol. This substance is reduced when cooked however. So you want to add those carrots to salads and use them for dipping to get the full benefit that carrots have to offer.

Do you currently take advantage of sweet potatoes. This cancer fighting food has many cancer fighting properties including beta-carotene. Beta-carotene protects DNA which is found in every cell's nucleus from cancer causing chemicals. This wonderful vegetable can be used in place of white potatoes and has terrific flavor.

Go ahead and make that meal spicy. Chili peppers and jalapenos contain capsaicin, which is a chemical that may neutralize some cancer causing substances and may very well help prevent cancers. So go ahead and add some spice to your life. It may very well help fight off stomach cancer as well as others and help you live a longer spicier life.

While we are spicing it up how about making some guacomole. Avocados are rich in glutathione. Glutathione is an antioxidant and antioxidants attack free radicals in our bodies. They do this by blocking intestinal absorption of certain fats. Not only that they contain more potassium than bananas and are also a source of beta-carotene. Some scietists believe that they may also be useful in treating viral hepatitis which in known to cause liver cancer.

Tomato is loaded with an antioxidant called lycopene. This antioxidant is terrific at attacking free radicals which are suspected in triggering cancer. Tomatoes also contains vitamin C which can prevent cellular damage that often leads to cancer. You can also find lycopene in watermelons, carrots and red peppers. Lycopene, when you eat foods high in lycopene it has been linked to the reduction of your risk at breast, prostate, pancreas and colorectal cancers.

Let us not forget the cancer fighting fruits. Grapefruits and other citrus fruits are believed to prevent cancers by removing carcinogens out of the body. Grapes, grapes wonderful grapes. Red grapes contain antioxidants that as we have mentioned is terrific at preventing cancer. They also contain resveratrol which is an enzyme that inhibits cancer-cell growth and contains ellagic acid which is a compound that blocks enzymes that are necessary for cancer cells.

Raspberries those wonderful berries available so readily this time of year contain many vitamins and minerals as well as antioxidants that may protect against cancer. Black raspberries may even be richer in antioxidants then blueberries or strawberries. So do not miss their benefit and be sure to take advantage of their freshness this time of year.

Tumeric which is a member of the ginger family has long been believed to have medicinal properties. It inhibits production of inflammation related enzymes. This is important because certain inflammatory diseases are known to increase risk of cancer. Especially bowel and colon cancer. So when we reduce inflammation we reduce the risk of cancer.

A couple of additional products I highly recommend for reducing you risk of cancer. Soy whether you use soy milk or tofu contain phytoestrogens, These can help prevent both breast and prostate cancer. They block and suppress cancerous changes. So go ahead and add soy to your diet. It is recommended to add up to 4 to 5 ounces of soy a day.

Green tea and black tea have catechins which is an antioxidant. This antioxidant appears to work by preventing cancer cells from dividing. Green tea is best followed by black tea. Herbal teas do not appear to be as helpful as green tea or black tea.

Red wine containing the antioxindant polyphenols help to neutralize free radicals. Like red grapes red wine also contains resveratrol. it inhibits cell proliferation and prevent cancer. So go ahead and have that glass a wine with your meal.

Like all things in life a balance is what is of most importance. Do not over load any food just because it is known for fighting cancer. Add it to your diet weekly yes. Even daily. However do not drink a bottle of wine for instance each day. In fact any food in over load whether you're talking about carrots or red wine is never recommended and may actually be worse for you then eating once a day. So add these cancer fighting foods finding a balance in your diet for the variety we mentioned. There are many more these are however a very good place to start. Eat healthy and live a long prosperous life.
