The question that all the runners set at some point in their racing career is: if we can have muscle mass despite the fact that we run a long run? And, how can you get the best from this combination? The short answer is - yes, it is possible to maintain weight besides running. There is also what "but", so the question that follows is: on which distances are we talking? Imagine a picture of a sprinter and one marathon; it is obvious that long-distance running does not rely on the structure of muscles. The key to success in achieving the goal is to find a good balance between running, strength training and nutrition, and this balance will depend on the goals you want to achieve. The truth is that research shows that running a certain extent weakens the ability of muscles to quickly adapt to strength training, but it is also true that strength training improves overall performance running. For example: If your goal is to run the race of 5 or 10 km, and then maybe half marathon, your weekly mileage will be 40 to 50 km will allow you to hold on, even build a degree of muscle mass, provided that they hold proper nutrition. On the other hand, if your primary goal is to build muscle mass, running will need to have a minimal role in your overall training.

Strength training helps runners by increasing the strength and endurance of the muscles themselves, reduce the loss of bone mineral, balance opposing muscle groups , reducing the risk of injury , even increase the entire racing performance. In addition to training and nutrition should be borne in mind that strength training is to make the muscles are increased  by increasing the number of myofibrils in them, which leads to hypertrophy, or excessive muscle growth, and how often it occurs depends on the type of strength training, years runners, nutrition.
