Mutations in BRCA1 increase the risk of becoming ill from breast cancer and ovarian cancer. The results of international research shows that it is necessary in affected females preventive surgery to remove the ovaries implemented by the age of 35, and in this way reduce the risk of developing ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer once in their life affects 1.4% of women. In women with a BRCA1 gene mutation, the cancer develops in 39% of cases.

According to experts, the scientific evidence clearly shows that the surgical removal of ovaries and fallopian tubes in women with BRCA1 gene mutation is very effective prevention method.

For women with a BRCA2 gene mutation, should be referred to a surgical procedure performed somewhere to forty years of age, given that the risk of developing cancer is not so great.

In any case, it should be noted that mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 in the general population quite rare.
