Allergic reaction

Oct 8th 2013 at 11:52 PM

As each allergic reaction is triggered by a specific allergen, the main goal of diagnosis is to be identified.
The allergen may be a seasonal plant or plant product (e.g., grass pollen, grass or herb [ragweed]) or a substance such as cat dander, drugs or food.
The allergen can cause an allergic reaction when it comes into contact with the skin or eye, is inhaled, ingested or injected. Often the allergen can be identified through a thorough investigation conducted by both the physician and the patient.

There are tests that can help determine if the symptoms are related to allergies and can identify the allergen involved. A blood sample may reveal the presence of many a type of white blood cell that increases in amount during allergic reactions.
The radio (RAST) measures serum concentrations of antibodies to a particular allergen, which may aid in the diagnosis of an allergic skin reaction, a seasonal allergic rhinitis or an allergic asthma.

Skin tests are extremely useful for identify specific allergens.
For the skin test, small amounts of dilute solutions produced based extracts of trees, grasses (grass, grass), weeds, pollens, dust, animal dander, insect venoms, foods and some medicines are injected into the skin of the individual.

When it is allergic to one or more of these substances, the place where the solution was injected forms an edematous papule (like a swollen surrounded by a reddened area) in 15 to 20 minutes. RAST may be used where skin test cannot be performed or when it is not safe. Both tests are highly specific, accurate, and often cheaper, and its results are known quickly.
