Cucumber is made of 95% water which means eating them on a hot sunny day can help you stay hydrated. There are hundred varieties of cucumber and they come in dozens of colors.

Cucumbers are a good source of phytonutrients such as flavanoids, lignans and triterpenes - which possess anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. They contain fiber and beta-carotene, a form of Vitamin A that is good for eyes. Here are some of the reasons why you should eat cucumbers.

As cucucmbers hold 95% of water, this makes you hydrated especially during the summer. A cup of cucumber slices is nearly as thirst-quenching as a glass of water. The anti-inflammatory compounds in cucumbers help in removing waste from the body and reducing skin irritation. You can also use cucumbers to get rid of wrinkles from aging.

Cucumbers contain polyphenols called lignans that help in lowering the risk of breast, ovarian and prostate cancer. The phytonutrients in cucumbers have anti-cancer propertieswhich help in blocking the development of cancer cells.

On the other hand, a Journal of Nutrition study of nearly 800 American women found that those with the highest lignan intake had the lowest risk of ovarian cancer.

Cucumber juice contains a hormone that is needed by the pancreas cells for producing insulin. This is found beneficial for diabetic patients. Cucumbers are rich in potassium, fiber and magnesium. These work effectively for regulating blood pressure. This makes cucumbers good for treating both low blood pressure and high blood pressure.
