The Game of Basketball Has Changed

Dec 30th 2015 at 1:25 AM

It's been a remarkable season in the NBA, as we're witnessing one of the greatest players of all time Kobe Bryant, retiring. However, what we're also noticing in the game of basketball is the one time MVP, Steph Curry.

As we may know, there are a lot of debate going on as far as how great of a player Steph Curry is. Sportscasters, and die hard fans are saying that we're in a time where basketball is considered "soft." To some degree, that is true. There's been a lot of rules that's been changed where players aren't as agressive as before. Additionally, there are no rivalry teams like how we had the Lakers vs Celtics in the 80's, or the Bulls vs the Knicks in the 90's. As far as Steph Curry goes, Marc Jackson made a remark that Curry has hurt the game of basketball. In Marc's defense, he's partially right. Kids nowadays, always have some type of idol, and in this era it happens to be Steph Curry. And the question might be, well, what is Steph good at? We all know the answer; shooting threes. Therefore, all we see now are kids jacking up three pointers before they even focus on the fundamentals of basketball.

However, in Steph's defense, he shoots a lot of three pointers because he makes them. Additionally, it's inspiring to see someone that doesn't have to be extremely athletic like LeBron James or as tall as Dwight Howard to make it in the NBA. If kids are going to jack three's all day, then at least they can practice on shooting long range jumpers, so that they could potentially be as good as Steph one day. I personally feel though that every kid should at least learn all the basics of basketball before they find what they're "good" at, or what they specifically want to do whether it's defense / rebounds / mid range jumpers etc. is a great site for kids to learn a thing or two about the sport.

Although the game of basketball has changed, we still have to respect Curry's game, regardless what Jackson thinks of his playstyle. And to conclude, we also have to appreciate the end of a dying breed - Kobe Bryant.
