The invention of portable watch
Peter Heinlein a clockmaker from Nuremberg is given the credit of father of watches. By his invention of mainspring in the 15th century marks the start of portable time piece usage. This German watch maker is someone who invented the first ornamental timepiece to be worn on body.
Clock watches were heavy drum shaped timepieces which were worn on suites in 16th century. These were the first watch to be worn commonly, mainly in German cities were they are first invented. These watches were cylindrical in shape with a fixed diameter and had only an hour hand. These had to be wounded twice a day for proper moments.
The main entry of watches into the fashion world is seen in 17th century with the invention of pocket watches. That was the time when majority people around the globe started to wear portable time pieces. The usage of pocket watches were made intense when people started wearing waist coats and was in need of watches which fits the pocket. The main course fashion for men in those times was pocket watch chains in their waist coats.
As technology moved forward people were looking for simpler things to be used daily and that’s how the watches that can be worn on wrists came up. The difficulty of taking out watch from the pocket every time is solved by this. And hence pocket watches slowly disappeared from market, and wrist watches started to take new forms. Today we have simple analogue watches to smart watches that can be worn on our wrist.
The decrease in watch usage
The golden period of watches is today over, and the usage of watches is very low today. From the increase in usage of mobile phones watches has become a burden in everyone’s wrist. But still there are people who consider the watch as a must have, and even people spends in millions to get some awesome timepieces to their collections.
