black long v-neck evening dress

White Tie: White tie occasions are reserved for the ultimate formal event. The "white" part usually refers to the men’s clothing, as men are required to wear a tailcoat, white shirt, white bow tie, and even a white vest. Women’s white tie dresses are stricter as well, and anything shorter than ankle-length is inappropriate. Bare shoulders and arms are also frowned upon in the more conservative settings and white elbow-length gloves may be required.

Black Tie: Black tie usually refers to the men's attire, particularly black tuxedos, although dark blue is acceptable nowadays. Black tie dresses for women usually mean they are required to wear an evening gown in a chiffon, silk, satin, or similar material, but today, cocktail dresses and little black dresses are considered black tie depending on the material, cut, and style.

Wedding Party: Guests should check the invitation for the appropriate attire required. However, most weddings that aren’t black tie or white tie are usually semi-formal. If the reception is in the evening, this means dark suits for the gentlemen and short or cocktail dresses for the women. Daytime weddings are usually more casual. Sundresses in lighter colors and hats are appropriate for women. When attending a wedding, the women should keep their attire simple so as not to overshadow the bride. For church ceremonies, ladies should keep the styles and cuts of their dress conservative, or at least wear a sweater or shawl when inside the church.
