Business suits for women – The changing attire scenario

Dec 25th 2014 at 10:29 PM

Business suits were also called lounge suits and the styles that are most often worn these days are the effect of a fashion revolution that saw a major re-designing, during the 19th century. The business suits has transformed from the embroidered version of the Regency era to the formal Victorian suits and ultimately, the need for more comfort resulted in the very comfortable, not too fit, lounge or business suits, as they are called today. Early Victorian era saw the prominence of the frock coat and remained the most sought after clothing for gentlemen. It is indeed surprising to note that the lounge or business suits for men started off as an informal piece of clothing worn usually only for sporting activities, at the beach or countryside.

Today the business suits for men are the most sought after formal wear by the westerners; not that popular in South Asia, possibly due to the weather not being suitable for formal suits. Many forms of these lounge suits cropped up, for different occasions. The business suits, when it went to the United States of America, were called the tuxedo. This was a more informal jacket, over not necessarily matching trousers. It is significant to understand that the business suits have travelled miles of distance all over, reaching the nook and corner of the globe. This is probably because of the British ruling many parts of the world and thus handing over their dress styles to the local people. Irrespective of whether or not the business suits fit the climate of the area, many people in India still wear the suits. Most wedding receptions in India will see the groom donning a formal business suit.

For the purpose of wedding receptions, in India, the grooms even splurge on rich suits. These designer suits for men are made to order, depending on the specifications requested by the customers. Since these are exclusive pieces, they cost a bomb and still, the grooms don’t mind spending for the once-in-a-lifetime experience of their marriage.

In the current scenario, women working are common practice. Many of the working women are employed with multi-national companies and are thus required to choose attire that suits their organisation and culture. Many multi-national organisations require their staff to be dressed formal and hence off late, even women wear suits. Formal business suits for women are slowly catching up in all textile brands, a new client base for them. Women’s business suits come in different colours and designs, unfortunately, a tad expensive.

Around a decade or two ago, business suits were available only in exclusive textile stores catering to these types of clients. Today, the scenario has completely changed, buying both, women’s and men’s suits online is the trend. There are many trustworthy sites that deal with authentic and even designer suits for men.
