Many of us believe that fat free food is in fact not fattening by any means. A sad consequence of the “fat free” popularity is people putting those extra pounds without realizing why.

The word fat has many meanings. Two of them are fat in the food we consume and fat that people put on our bodies due to eating too much poor nutrition and not enough exercise. It is regrettable that the word fat is used to describe both of these totally different meanings. Because the same word carries those meanings most of us tempt to think that as a result of eating fat free food we will not gain fat on our bodies.

The fact remains that eating fat does not always mean that this kind of fat will be put on our bodies as excess weight. Fat has more calories per gram than many other ingredients. Eating a large amount of fat means consuming a lot more energy than our body requires and additional energy means the body turning this energy into layers fat reserves. It is really the energy in the fat rather than the fat itself that is fattening.

Therefore do not believe that simply by staying away from fat you will avoid getting fat – that is just not true. Fat free food is less appetizing than food with fat.
