Since the early seventies of the twentieth century, millions of migrant workers from other countries (mostly former Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey and Italy) have come to Germany to work there. Below there are currently approximately 3.3 million Muslims, mainly Turks and Kurds. In total there are seven million foreigners, in which the population total to 81.7 million. 91.5% of the population is German.
Approximately 30 percent (24.8 million) of the population is a member of the Evangelical Church in Germany (31-12-2007). This alliance of churches is especially Lutheran and some Reformed (Calvinist and zwingliaans) Makita 5007MG. They live mainly in the north. Furthermore, there are about 2 percent Orthodox Christians. Altogether, 63 percent Christians in Germany. The church attendance figures are counted that 4.2 percent of the population visit a Catholic church on Sunday (in 2007) and about 1.2 percent EKD Church (in 2007). There is a small Jewish minority of 0.2 percent (mostly recent immigrants from Eastern Europe and Russia). 3.8% is Muslim.
More than half of the population in the area that was formerly East Germany and in the northern Bundesland Hamburg is not a religion.
