Canon VIXIA HF G10

As with all cameras which are new to a person, there's a learning curve. Your first video clips may not be your best ones, but you'll quickly learn to use manual settings to best advantage. It's so easy! And it's so smooth, using the ring which surrounds the lens at the front of the camera, that you can adjust exposure or WB "on the fly" as you shoot. (I don't recommend adjusting WB "on the fly", but it can be done easily, and adjusting *exposure* while shooting can be a great help in getting an excellent final video.)

Images are superbly sharp, probably better than with the Canon, which does produce superbly sharp images. But for me, the ease of adjusting exposure and focus are the very best things about the camera. They make correct exposure much easier and more accurate than I could achieve with the Canon. White balance is more difficult to get right. I found that automatic white balance (AWB) is very good, though not absolutely perfect, most of the time. Custom WB is possible, and it's easy to make a custom WB with the TM900, but custom WB is not often an improvement over AWB. The preset WB for Sun is pretty accurate; the preset for Cloudy conditions is very good, though maybe it's a touch too saturated for my taste. There is no separate WB preset for Shade.
