Trend That Started With The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Mysteries, fantasies, and fairytales have never lost their inherent attraction for the readers and at times the creations overlap the creators as it happened in case of Stieg Larsson, the eminent Swedish author. He died in 2004 but his epoch making trilogy that commenced with “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and ended with “The Girl That Kicked The Hornet’s Nest” was published only after it and became the bestseller in2008. It also started a legacy that resulted in coming up of a series of blockbuster publications.
Steig Larsson, the masterly writer created this millennium trilogy that was published posthumously. In between the two novels mentioned above, he wrote “The Girl who played with Fire” as the second one in the series. Initially a writer of scientific fictions, Larsson moved over to writing crime thrillers with the Millennium Trilogy. Dragon Tattoo was published in 2008 and before that the novel also received the award as best crime novel in 2005. All these novels were published in U.K and United States during 2008-2010.
Looking for Sequel
Popularity of the trilogy that started with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo continued unabated and publishers and people started looking for appropriate sequel to the trilogy. In fact, it has been planned to be published by Swedish publisher Norstedts and to be written by David Lagercrantz. The sequel is likely to hit the market in August 2015. Books published in the Millennium series have been also converted to movies that have been very popular among the viewers.
On to Twilight Series
When Stephenie Meyer wrote the vampire themed romantic novel that takes the reader to the fantasy land, even she did not realize how popular the Twilight series is going to be. Based on the love story of a teenage girl named Isabella with a 104 year old vampire Edward Cullen, the series has Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. Especially popular among the young adults, the series has not only won several awards as best Children’s book but also have been the script for extremely popular movies. The series has sold more than 140 million copies already and has also been translated in as many as 38 languages.
Harry Potter and Hunger Games
There is hardly a teenager today who does not know or dislike Harry Potter. It is one of the most popular fantasy fiction series of recent times and also the script for most popular movies on the topic. The fantasy mystery thriller by J.K.Rowling of U.K has got as many as seven books in it. Central character in the series is the young wizard Harry Potter and his friends Ronal Weasly as well as Hermione Granger; all students of school of Witchcraft at Hogwarts.
Last but not the least in the trend setter series is the Hunger Games created by Suzanne Collins.
