So You Think You Had A Bad Day

Next time things don't go right for you, please consider this.

On Sunday Morning, while I was struggling to get out of bed and grumbling about a few aches and pains, my friend's world was abruptly and tragically torn apart.

His son, travelling home at seven o'clock in the morning had a car accident and was killed.

He was a responsible young man with everything to live for.  His twenty first birthday was only months away.  His parents idolised him.

For whatever random reason, his car crossed the road and hit  a tree.  It may have been black ice, it could have been that he swerved to avoid an animal, he may have just fallen asleep.

It doesn't matter.

The simple cruel fact is that he is dead.

And my friend will struggle to cope.

I don't even know why I'm writing this, but I am in my own way trying to come to terms with the sheer utter randomlessness of it.

The young man was a local sporting hero.  When the emergency crew arrived, it was a teammate who was first on the scene.  I can't imagine how that was.  I can't imagine how my friend and his wife coped wit the news or are coping with life itself.

Sometimes life just sucks.

I have rang both of ny daughters repeatedly this week to make sure they're alright.

I have told them I love them more often these past few days then I have in the past two years, because I know now that they are gifts that can be taken awaynytime anywhere.

Make sure you let your loved ones know how you feel about them.

In the meantime I'd better check on my friend.
