North Georgia Humane Society
The North Georgia Humane Society is a shelter focused on finding animals forever homes. Animals that come through the Humane Society are abandoned, injured, homeless and alone. The society focuses on finding these animals forever homes through clever marketing strategies, community outreach and adoption events. Adoption can also be done through the website or by visiting the organization in person.
The North Georgia Humane Society has more available than just services for animals. The society also offers summer camps called Pet P.A.L.S. The summer camp is for children who enjoy helping animals and would like to dedicate a chunk of their summer to advocating for animals. The “P.A.L.S.” stands for “Prepare Animals for Love and Shelter,” which is what the children at this summer camp do. The days are filled with animal interaction, guest speakers and crafts.
The Humane Society also offers people the option to volunteer at the facility. Volunteers can help clean and provide basic care for the animals, taking them for walks, assisting in puppy petting and showing families around when they visit the facility in search of a new family member. The Humane Society also offers a fostering program, allowing you to care for the animal in a foster home, freeing up space in the Humane Society Facility for other abandoned animals. The foster program gives the animal a comfortable home to stay with while waiting to transition into a forever home.
Puppy training and clicker training classes are also available, as well as a behavioral helping if you have any questions regarding your pets training and behavior. Wellness clinic along with the spay and neuter center provides animals with basic veterinary care and allows owners to being their pets in to be spayed and neutered. Events are also hosted throughout the year for fundraising purposes and to help spread the word and importance of pet adoption. These events can range from adoption days, 5K and 10K runs for the community, yard sales, photography events and different art events.
The North Georgia Humane Society website also offers an abundance of information on all facets of the adoption process. The website offers pricing on different adoptions, forms and policy information regarding the adoption process, different donation programs that are currently active and a page dedicated solely to pet care resources to help owners care for their pets and answer any questions they have. The North Georgia Humane Society has been supported by a variety of different donors; an Atlanta native, Jim Shaw and his wife Laurette Shaw are just some of the societies dedicated donors.
