Look Stylish in Your New Post-Mastectomy Wear

Dec 21st 2015 at 11:32 PM

There’s a lot to think about if you are undergoing a mastectomy to get rid of your breast cancer – such as, will the surgery be enough, or how will it change your life in other ways. One thing you shouldn’t have to worry about is what you will wear after your mastectomy. You can find mastectomy compression wear in Campbell if you know where to look for it.

The first step is to remind yourself that it will take awhile to heal, emotionally and physically, and that during this process you will have to re-learn how to dress yourself. Your traditional bras and lingerie probably won’t fit you how it used to, and figuring out how to make the switch may be a work in progress. Consider getting someone close to you to help you get dressed.

Be sure to prepare your wardrobe ahead of time, as you may not have the energy to do so after your surgery and it may become overwhelming with everything you’re going through. Find mastectomy compression wear in Campbell and stock up on your shirts, dresses, pajamas and more.

You will want to consider loose-fitting clothes to hide drains. You may also want to consider a front zipper, as it will make it easier for you to get it on and off, and will make it easier for doctor appointments. With a limited range of movement, it may not be possible to lift your arms high enough to get a shirt over your head, and you may be uncomfortable trying.

For wearing around the house, especially soon after your surgery, you will want a large robe that can be adjusted to fit how you want it. You will want it to have large sleeves, as well. This will make it more comfortable around the house, at it won’t be constricting you.

You don’t have to stop wearing dresses. A comfortable, flowing dress with a loose fit and soft fabric will be easier to put on and comfortable. Again, try to find one with a front zipper or buttons so that it is easier to put on.

You aren’t alone; there are many women that have gone through this same dilemma, and there are now resources online to help you shop and prepare for your post-mastectomy wear. Finding mastectomy compression wear in Campbell ahead of time will also put your mind at ease, and allow you to focus more on your recovery and stress out less about your clothing.
