According to Tribunnews, Indonesia is predicted to be the largest automobile export base in Southeast Asia, replacing the position of Thailand in the future. In fact, this year Indonesia has begun to position itself as the largest automobile market among ASEAN countries. There is even an event called Review Mobil Proton Indonesia Terbaik to promote the Malaysian cars.
This conclusion is issued on the analysis by the EIU based in London, England, entitled "ASEAN automotive: Looking to 2015" received by KompasOtomotif on Tuesday (30/9). Indonesia's opporunity will become much bigger in Southeast Asia after the agreement of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) or free trade agreement among the 10 ASEAN members will be applied starting the end of 2015.
At this stage, it is highly possible that the AEC will be delayed. According to the results of the study, the wide gap between developed countries to developing countries such as Singapore to Laos or Myanmar is the one causing the delay. However, obstacles tax or non-tax among certain countries began to drop, to free trade practices and "market" of labor in the ASEAN region, increasing competition and increasing economic growth.
Companies in each country have started preparing themselves to grab opportunities and face the threat of the passing of the AEC. Car manufacturers in particular began to see ASEAN as one of the areas with a rapid growth potential.
