Important Of Following Tajweed When Reading The Holy Quran

Sep 10th 2015 at 4:37 AM

For a devout Muslim, the ability to recite the Holy Quran correctly is one of the most important rules of the faith. After all, the Holy Quran contains the actual words of Allah and they are meant to serve as a guide to faithful Muslims whereby they might lead a righteous existence no matter the circumstances. Muslims are not just expected to learn the Quran, but they should also be able to recite it according to a set of rules that are known as Tajweed. Only then will the power and beauty of Allah’s holy words be brought out in the intended manner.

Tajweed refers to the rules pertaining to the way in which the Quran should be recited. It comes from an Arabic word that indicates 'proficiency'. The reason that it is necessary to study it these days is that this is the exact way in which the angel Jibreel recited the holy words of Allah to Prophet Muhammad. As a matter of fact, most people no longer speak the Classical Arabic that was prevalent at the time of Prophet Mohammed, which makes the study of Tajweed absolutely essential for all believers. The Islamic faith has adherents all over the world and it is quite natural that most of them will not be able to speak Arabic in the desired manner. Even everyday Arabic spoken in many Arab countries is not satisfactory for reciting the Holy Quran correctly.

A person who studies the rules of Tajweed knows exactly how each and every letter has to be recited, especially since the letters are recited differently based upon the situation they are used in. The meaning of a word can also change if it is pronounced in the incorrect manner. While this might not matter in day to day conversation, it is obviously of the greatest importance when reciting the Holy Quran.

One is expected to follow moderation when reciting verses of the holy Quran and there is absolutely no need for any exaggeration. The verses are sublimely beautiful to hear and even people who do not understand the meaning will feel moved by it. Therefore, one has to learn the Holy Quran under the tutelage of a person who is well versed in the rules of Tajweed. These days it is possible to get training from a Tajweed expert irrespective of where one lives thanks to the presence of internet based tutorial programs.
