How to Survive in Rust

Oct 4th 2014 at 12:57 AM

Life is hard, but Rust is even harder. Yes, the new online multiplayer game on Steam has taken the gaming world by storm, with some even terming it the impossible game. We personally feel that the game itself isn’t that difficult; it’s the depth of the in-game mechanics that we gamers tend to overlook. Traditionally, first person shooters go about using a simpler pattern; purchase some game keys, grab a gun, hide behind a table and shoot. Rust, however, goes about employing some complicated elements such as Health, radiation and even calorie count! If you plan on surviving in this virtual utopia, better follow these tips:

Radiation Zones

· There are some areas within the game known as radiation zones. Though these zones boast the highest concentration of loot, they are also highly radioactive, meaning you can’t stick around long enough.

· A good strategy would be to set up a timer for, say a minute or two, and locate all the loot that you can within that time. Once the buzzer sounds, stop what you’re doing and get out of there!

Material

· Now the loot that you get can vary between food, cloth and animal fat among other things, which can then be used to craft other things.

· For example, you generally have a limited amount of bandages, but you could also craft your own using cloth.

· The game itself uses a time based system, so you need to more wary in order to conserve resources. For example, a campfire will use 1 unit of wood per minute, so if you’re a slow cooker, better buck up.

Campfire

· We would personally recommend cooking food instead of eating raw meat, as the cooked food has a higher calorie count in some instances. Also, the campfire produces charcoal as you use it, so the used wood is probably worth it.

· Many gamers fail to realize that there are multiple slots in the campfire, all of which could be used at the same time. Cooking 3 chicken breast pieces at a time would consume the same amount of wood as cooking one; go figure!

Security

· The Rust World isn’t a bed of roses, and things can get tough. This is why you should be wary of your shelter; only you can access it, but if you invite someone in, they can kill you, leaving the shelter open for rehabilitation.
