Oct 6th 2014 at 10:04 PM

Selection of the stickers or packing labels for the food products can always be time intensive. One cannot pick any random stickers, but have to follow the right method for selecting the right one. While selecting the food labels, the manufacturers have to consider the government regulations for the food products to select the right packaging. The package label also have to abide by the food regulation act as the food inside it. You cannot pack it in a container made for cosmetics or chemicals. It has to be made specifically for the food.

Before beginning the sticker printing, try to assess whether the food label sticker has the following qualities or not:

Food grade!

The packaging should be food grade. Manufacturers will use it to store food therefore anything but food grade can be hazardous for the users. The food stored inside will touch the container unless until there is a layer of food grade plastic in between. Moreover, the label sticker is also considered as a part of the food evaluation so make sure it is safe for the food inside and also for the users.

Food safe ink!

Since you will be using ink to print details on the packing, it is very essential for you to make sure it is safe for the food. During packing, transportation and storage, there are always chances that ink might come into contact with the food product stored inside. As the manufacturer, it is your duty to ensure it is safe for the customers.

Water proof!

The ink and the label used for the sticker printing should be water proof, especially for the frozen products, dairy products and liquid products. During storage, most of them are stored in ice; hence, if it is not water proof there are chances it might get damaged due to ice.

Barrier protection!

The food label should be capable of keeping the food product safe from outside interaction with other things. It should be a good barrier protection for the items inside. Whether it is liquid, solid or powdered form, the item should be safe from dust, water vapors, oxygen and other such factors, which might damage the food product.

Before beginning with your printing work, get your labels approved by the government authorities. The label should also be according to your food type whether it is liquid or solid. Consider all these points before getting the label printed to avoid mishaps.
