Get Credit Score Without Hurting Your Current Standing
Many ingenious people thought that a pseudo-application for loans was a great way to know one's FICO credit score without paying for it. It does work, apparently. You will be able to get credit score by applying for a loan but the next time you ask for your score, surely you will notice that you already have a lower score despite not doing any activity related to your finances. Why did your score change-for the worse-despite financial inactivity? Getting loans entitled the loaning institution to inquire about your credit worthiness. More often than not, these are branded as hard inquiries or those that will negatively affect your score.
Nevertheless, there are legal and unpaid ways to get credit score. A good way to start is to look out for promotions. American Express card holders allowed its clients to get free Experian-based FICO credit scores. Unfortunately, the promotion is already over. You may also look for 30-day free trial period of credit score companies. But this might be a risky thing especially if you forgot to sign out before the trial period expires.
These regular checks will also give them an idea of how financially healthy you are or if you can still pay off your credit card loans.
Asking them to provide you with your credit score is justifiable. Requesting for the information needed depends on the policy of your credit card company. Some may require you to submit it in written format. Other people would point you to the customer support area. Yet other companies may also decline to provide you with the information.
If the latter scenario happens, do not despair. There are tons of other ways to get credit score without paying for it. Try all the other options above but just make sure that you will not accumulate hard inquiries or forget to quit from the trial period before the 30 day deadline is over.
