Fuel Poverty Set To Rise

Dec 23rd 2010 at 7:50 AM

Anaylists in the Uk are predicting that a further one million UK households will be forced into fuel poverty during the next twelve months.

This means one in five UK households will struggle to pay their utility bills as energy pices look set to double over the next ten years and the current government introduces levies on energy bills to subsidise the switch to renewable energy sources and the building or refurbishing of new and existing nuclear power stations.

Despite the deregulation of the energy industry to try and create more competition between the utility suppliers the so called "Big 6" energy suppliers still dominate the market.

Ina ddition to the recent price rises announced by most of the Uk's energy suppliers with others expected to follow soon UK residents can also expect hikes in water services charges also by as much as twenty seven percent.

If you've had a notice from your current energy provider and want to switch to an alternative provider then within twenty days of receiving the notification contact your provider and tell them you do not accept the rise in your tariff. You then have a further fifteen days to find n alternative provider and once you have done this your services transfer should be completed within six weeks in which time you carry on paying your original provider at the pre increase rate.

If you've never switched your provider before then you possibly have the most to gain and can get quotes from various sources online however on most of these sites you wont find the Utility Warehouse Discount Club because they don't pay the comparison sites to be listed, preferring to rely on recommendation from satisfied customers to thier friends and families and the third party recommendation they get from consumer organisations like "Which"
