Forklift Repair Tips
Contrary to what some may believe, repairing and maintaining these machines is not that difficult provided you take the right approach. The key to prolonging and maintaining the life of a forklift is to develop a maintenance schedule and follow it.
Forklift Repair Maintenance
Make it a habit to check the tires on a regular basis. Pay attention to the tire pressure and ensure the forklift uses gas properly and that it’s handled safely. Do not use lift trucks with underinflated tires because this can lead to poor traction and precipitate an accident. But it’s equally not advisable to use overinflated tires because these can blow out and damage the forklift.
Forklift Repair and Oil Change
A forklift needs regular oil change just like your car, as this leads to optimum performance and ensures the machine is running optimally. The rule of thumb is to change oil every three months as this improves fuel efficiency, prevents problems related to combustion and enhances overall performance. If you’ve been wondering why some forklifts run better than others, you can attribute it to oil maintenance.
Assess Antifreeze Forklift Repair
If the order picker isn’t working properly, there could be a problem with the antifreeze. If this feature isn’t functioning there’s a good chance the forklift could freeze or overheat. If there’s no regular maintenance this can afflict your forklift anytime, causing great inconvenience and frustration. You can avoid this potential problem by having the forklift antifreeze reservoir inspected on a regular basis and you should also have the radiator checked and any leaks repaired.
Other Forklift Repair Tips
Forklifts with malfunctioning brakes are dangerous and can cause serious accidents so it’s mandatory you check these on a regular basis. The more forklifts are used, the softer the brakes get and the harder the operator has to push to make it work. It only takes a few moments to change these brakes so there’s no reason why it cannot be done.
This one might seem obvious but it’s worth stating: do not use an order picker in situations where it’s not intended. These units can lift specific loads so don’t go over that, and ensure there’s sufficient room for these machines to move. Do not use a large forklift in a confined area because it can be disastrous.
One more thing: you might come across some forklifts with recycled parts. These are not low quality, as they have been revamped following heavy use. Recycling components is a common practice among manufacturers and subject to the same forklift repair guidelines that have been given here.
