Edible Chocolate Bowls

Aug 29th 2013 at 4:25 AM

Mmmm, there is nothing better than fresh fruit and cream. Unless you add chocolate! A wonderfully rich and sweet dessert takes the simplicity of fresh fruit and cream, and combines it with a smooth and milky chocolate. Rather than using the usual plastic bowl for your treat, how about a chocolate bowl? It gives your fruit and cream an elegant look, and it will be the most delish serving dish you have ever consumed.

To make a chocolate bowl, you will need a package of premium chocolate, such as peter’s chocolate. Start by melting it slowly in the microwave, stirring often. Let the chocolate sit and cool for just a few minutes. While you are waiting, take a few balloon, blow them up, and tie with a secure knot. Holding the ballons by their knots, dip them into the chocolate. Make sure to cover at least half of the balloon in the melted chocolate. Place the balloons – tip side up – onto a wax paper-lined tray and place in your fridge or freezer. After several hours, your balloon should be almost deflated, and the chocolate should be hard. Remove the balloon from the center of the chocolate bowl. If the chocolate is not completely set, you will want to wait just a little bit longer and give it some more time to harden.

If you would prefer and even more luxurious appearance than just a standard chocolate bowl, you can fill a frosting bag with the melted chocolate, and attach a straight line decorating tip. Decide what size of chocolate bowl you would like to use, and find a glass bowl that is about that size. Flip it over, and start to pipe crisscrosses all over the bowl. Make sure to pay close attention to the base so there will be plenty of support. Freeze the bowls, and wait until it is hard. When the chocolate has set, pipe more chocolate in crisscross and freeze it again. Repeat the process until your bowl doesn’t have spaces between the chocolate.

After your bowl is hardened, you will need a scoop of French vanilla ice cream for each bowl. Fill the rest of the bowl with blueberries, raspberries, and halved strawberries. Serve, and enjoy! Using this idea, you will find that you can make your own candies with ease. This is truly the perfect dessert to showcase your fresh raspberries and strawberries from your garden, and also to show off your chocolatiering.
