Cross of Calvary (Attitude and Motivation)

Jan 30th 2011 at 7:56 PM

Two of the most important qualities a Gospel group must possess is a good attitude and be highly motivated! If you take a long look at any singing group period, you will always see that it went through a real challenging time with individuals that were in the group. These challenges ranged from egos that were too big for the talent they had or non-talent, wanting to be the boss over everybody, and/or wanting to be a know-it-all! I mean every group whether gospel or secular has went through all of these changes with thier prospected members. Every group to a certain extent has a David Ruffin-one of the lead singers from the famous Temptations! David could really sing for sure, but he caused the group more hurt than anything. He thought that he could control the whole group because he was so talented-this was according to the movie now, because I never knew the man personally. I'm just using this as an example of things can get out of hand!

Cross of Calvary is a group that I am part owner of along with Arthur Butler. I'm also owner of Walkers Music and I teach this group all of the songs and I do all of the recordings and mixing. This group could be one of the top group in the area, but like the Temptations, we have our problems too. Rehearsal means everything to any group-gospel, secular, and you can keep naming them, but all of them needs to be tight when it comes to performance and/or recording. The only way to get tight is to have regular and hard rehearsals! You also need talent. Let me explain something to you people-no one is gonna buy a CD with bad vocals or bad musicians playing wrong notes and sounding like crap! If you want your group to be successful, you are gonna have to invest the time and effort to get yourselves as polished and highly shined as possible. All greatness and success must have the previous mentioned qualities. There is no other way around it and the proof is in the music we are hearing today that is badly produced!

I'm gonna post in the near future some tracks of Cross of Calvary and do my best to demostrate how music should sound-good gosple music! I will certainly try not to let anyone down and will difinitely keep everyone updated on the progress of the group. We got a show coming up on March 6, 2011 in Eufaula, AL. More details on this event will follow in a week or so. Keep alert for news flashes and article posts. As always, I say this in all of my videos I do on YouTube-This is Midiman saying Peace and Goodbye!
