Choosing the Best Dress and Hairstyle for Your Wedding

Jul 21st 2014 at 11:37 PM

Did you know that specific wedding hairstyles go well with specific types of wedding gowns? Here is a guide on how to do your hair depending on your wedding gown neckline.

1. The gown: A single-shoulder gown or a dress with an asymmetrical neckline

Go for side-swept curls, a side pony, or a braid that can cover the bare shoulder to balance the neckline. Alternatively, you can go for a stylish updo to draw attention to the dress' stylish cut. Try a mussed beehive for its timeless glamour and the added volume that contrasts with the architectural lines of your gown. Consider sweeping your bangs to one side to mirror the shape of the dress.

2. The gown: Strapless

Strapless wedding gowns look great with loose and flowing locks. You can push off or pull the hair over the shoulders. Try a clean side part with softer waves for that princess-y look.

3. The gown: Boat neck

A demure bateau or boat neckline wedding dress reveals a bit of your skin along the collarbone. Take your hair off your face with a soft low updo or a cropped cut with some finger waves. If you have long hair, gather a bulk of it at your nape and add a row of ornamental bobby pins, barrette, or a brooch if you are pinning at the back or at the side.

4. The gown: Off-shoulder

Draw attention to your shoulders with a deep side part. You can wear your hair down as long as it does not cover the shoulders, or try an updo like a chignon or a tight knot for added sophistication.

5. The gown: Square neck

This is a straightforward cut that shows off as much skin as a strapless gown does, but with emphasis on your décolleté and collarbone. Go for a contemporary bouffant hairstyle with volume at your crown, and accentuate with a thin headband for a touch of glam.

6. The gown: V-neck

Wear v-neck wedding dress to elongate your neck and look lean and tall with an updo. For a romantic flair, choose a similar hairstyle like a midpart with a braided circlet.

7. The gown: High-collared

High neckline dresses make you look refined in your wedding, but that does not mean that you have to look stiff. Create contrast with the high collar by wearing your hair in loose and carefree waves or a messy bun that makes you look carefree.

8. The gown: Scoop neckline

Wear scoop neckline wedding dress with long, straight tresses and blunt sleek bangs. Go for super shiny strands and make sure there are no fly a ways.
