Bigger benefits are coming soon ... especially for active members

Mar 8th 2013 at 12:01 PM

We are excited to announce that over the next few weeks (or so), several improvements will be made to a number of features within IM faceplate.

The entire facepoints system is getting a bit of an overhaul.  Some changes will be made to the way in which members earn facepoints, but more noteworthy are the benefits that will be added or improved upon.  We will also attempt to simplify it a bit to make it a little easier to grasp.  If you have been left wondering in the past - "what are facepoints good for, and how can I use them?" ... then these updates should help with that too! :)

Did you know that IM faceplate members have published over 23,000 articles so far!  This is quite incredible and we wanted to focus some time improving this section of the site.

You see, with this many aritcles, it can also make it a bit challenging for members that are trying to get their articles read.  It is also a little tricky to find the really good articles among the ones that are more of a sales page than a true article.

Now, even though we have had guidelines in place since the start, we will be the first to admit that we haven't really scrutinized the articles all that much in the past, and this has resulted in many articles being posted in the article directory that are not really articles (they are more sales pages than anything else)

So, here's what we are doing ...

When a member writes an article, they will now need to specify whether they want to submit the article for approval or not.

An article that is being written solely for publishing on one's faceplate does NOT need to be submitted for approval and does not need to follow the same strict guidelines as those that are being submitted for approval in the article directory of the site.  In other words, you can still publish an article that is more "sales-y", but just don't submit it for approval.

In a nutshell ... articles that conform to the guidelines can be submitted for approval, and if approved, they will appear in the article directory of the site ... while articles that are not submitted for approval (or they are rejected by our staff) will NOT be indexed and will NOT show up in the article directory - but they will still show up on that member's faceplate.

When will this take effect?

Articles that are not approved will be dropped from the article directory sometime in April (we will see how things go).  So, it's important that every member take a few minutes and review their articles to see if they meet the guidlines and then click the little checkbox to submit for approval if they want their article to be included in the article directory.

What are the guidelines for article approval?

When you add a new article (or edit an existing one), there is a big blue box at the top with the guidelines.  All members are asked to read this even if they have in the past, because we have updated the guidelines to be less ambiguous ... it's pretty cut and dry now :)

Pro Membership

The Pro membership will also be getting a little attention as we look to provide even greater value to those members that have chosen to upgrade their account.

Other tidbits

We are always looking to improve the site and it's functionality.  Most of these little updates are not specifically announced but rather present themselves as little surprises :)

Please feel free to let us know your thoughts and feedback on any updates we make, since we really do value the opinion of our members.  And if you have a suggestion ... pass it along and we'll see what we can do.

And with that ... we wish you a great weekend!

I notice this is the most recent news update, 6 years later, but I am definitely interested in looking into posting articles on this site. Thanks for all the features and everything on here.

Attention Tyler and Kramer: December 6, 2015 - IM faceplate has almost completely been overrun with spammers. Monitoring and control is needed. Is there anything that can be done about this? Look at the Discussion groups - it's all spam now. :(

One thing that need improvment is the spotlite . . getting an image to look good in it is very difficult.. needs a better interface so we can make the spotlite work.

I'm glad to see changes coming to IMFaceplate . It was getting a little boring in here and the article thing is good . People should understand that the faceplate is for selling and articles get people to your faceplate .

@ Terri The article approvals are most certainly not a way to get more members upgrading to PRO and are only being implemented because often times members are using the article module to post other types of content that are not really articles. The reality is that IMfaceplate is quite different from an article directory because it is first and foremost a social network. This means that members might want to publish something on their faceplate that is really not a true article and therefore we can accommodate every circumstance. I hope that helps to explain things a little better.

So how long will it take to get articles approved? I don't think this is really a good idea because most people on the site are promoting a business. I think this is more to get more people to upgrade to the pro version. I'm just saying gentlemen. Maybe I'm wrong if so I apologize to you.
